Income tax & monthly TDS

Income tax regime

Good to know

  • The new regime (default since FY 2023-24) does not allow HRA, 80C, 80D, 80E, 80G, 80TTA/TTB, or home-loan-interest deductions.
  • Sec 80CCD(2) employer NPS contribution is the one deduction allowed under both regimes.
  • The old regime's basic exemption limit rises with age — ₹2.5L below 60, ₹3L for 60–80, ₹5L for 80+. The new regime uses the same slabs for everyone.
  • Section 87A gives nil tax up to ₹12L taxable income (new regime) or ₹5L (old regime), with marginal relief just above the threshold.

Estimate only, using FY 2026-27 slab rates (unchanged from FY 2025-26 by Budget 2026), Section 87A rebate, surcharge, and 4% cess. Actual TDS depends on your employer's calculation method, declared investment proofs, and any mid-year income or regime changes. Consult your payroll team or a tax advisor for precise figures.

How it works

How this calculator works

Your employer estimates your annual tax liability under the applicable regime, then deducts it in roughly equal monthly instalments as TDS (Tax Deducted at Source). This tool computes taxable income under both the old and new regime for FY 2026-27 — factoring in Sec 80CCD(2) employer NPS (allowed in both regimes), the regime-specific standard deduction, and, for the old regime, HRA exemption, Sec 80C/80CCD(1B)/80D/80E/80G/80TTA-80TTB, and Sec 24(b) home loan interest — then applies the correct slab rates (including the age-based exemption limits under the old regime), the Section 87A rebate with marginal relief, applicable surcharge with marginal relief, and 4% health & education cess.

Questions

TDS Calculator: FAQs

This calculator computes both and tells you which one results in lower tax for the numbers you enter — the new regime is pre-selected since it is the default for most salaried employees, but you can switch to the old regime and enter your deductions.
