How it was worked out
- Monthly gross salary: ₹60,000; Basic + DA: ₹30,000.
- Final month: each component × 24 payable days ÷ 31 = ₹46,452.
- Leave encashment: ₹30,000 ÷ 30 = ₹1,000 a day × 12 days = ₹12,000.
- Notice: 60 days required − 45 served = 15 days. ₹60,000 ÷ 30 = ₹2,000 a day × 15 = ₹30,000, recovered from the employee.
- Gratuity: ₹30,000 × 15 ÷ 26 × 7 years = ₹1,21,154.
- Net = earnings ₹1,79,606 − deductions ₹30,000 = ₹1,49,606.

Third, the leave balance to encash and the notice period required and served. Fourth, gratuity, worked out under the Code on Social Security, 2020: 15 days of wages for each completed year (a part year over six months counts as a year), wages ÷ 26, capped at ₹20 lakh. Fifth, bonus and other dues and the recoveries (advances, loans, assets, PF, PT, TDS). Notice, leave encashment and bonus follow your company policy, so you choose the basis. Full and Final Settlement Calculator formula
Net F&F = Salary for days worked + Leave encashment + Gratuity + Other dues (+ Notice pay, if the employer cut the notice short) − Notice shortfall recovery − Recoveries − Statutory deductions
Worked example
Ravi joined on 10 June 2019 and resigned with 24 October 2026 as his last working day. His monthly pay is ₹60,000 (Basic ₹30,000, HRA ₹15,000, special allowance ₹15,000). He has 12 days of leave to encash and served 45 of his 60 days of notice. His employer has more than 10 employees.
- Salary for October: ₹60,000 × 24 ÷ 31 days = ₹46,452
- Leave encashment: ₹30,000 ÷ 30 × 12 days = ₹12,000
- Gratuity: service is 7 years, 4 months, so 7 years count. ₹30,000 × 15 ÷ 26 × 7 = ₹1,21,154
- Notice shortfall: 60 − 45 = 15 days. ₹60,000 ÷ 30 × 15 = ₹30,000 recovered
- Net = ₹46,452 + ₹12,000 + ₹1,21,154 − ₹30,000 = ₹1,49,606
Ravi’s full and final settlement is ₹1,49,606 before PF, professional tax and TDS for the final month. His wages are due within two working days of his resignation and his gratuity within 30 days.

How soon must the full and final settlement be paid?
Wages must be paid within two working days. Section 17(2) of the Code on Wages, 2019, in force since 21 November 2025, says the wages of an employee who is removed, dismissed, retrenched or resigns must be paid within two working days of that event. Gratuity has its own limit: within 30 days of becoming payable, under section 56(3) of the Code on Social Security, 2020.
Is a fixed-term employee entitled to gratuity?
Yes, after one year of service under the contract. Section 2(o) of the Industrial Relations Code, 2020 makes a fixed-term employee eligible for gratuity on one year of service, and section 53 of the Code on Social Security, 2020 says it is paid pro rata. The Labour Ministry’s FAQs of 16 March 2026 confirm the one-year rule.
How is gratuity calculated in the F&F?
15 days of wages for every completed year of service, with a part year over six months counted as a full year. For a monthly-paid employee, 15 days of wages is the last monthly wages × 15 ÷ 26 (section 53, Code on Social Security, 2020). Permanent employees need 5 years of continuous service, except on death or disablement, and the statutory amount is capped at ₹20 lakh.
Can the employer recover notice pay, loans and advances from the F&F?
Advances, loans and loss of goods entrusted to the employee are allowed deductions under section 18(2) of the Code on Wages, and in a wage period total deductions cannot exceed 50% of wages (section 18(3)). Notice pay recovery depends on the employment contract. The calculator lets you enter or waive each recovery.
Which wages are used for gratuity under the Labour Codes?
Basic pay, dearness allowance and retaining allowance, but if excluded allowances are more than half of total pay, the excess is added back. This 50% rule is in section 2(88) of the Code on Social Security, 2020, and the Labour Ministry’s FAQs say gratuity on the revised wages applies from 21 November 2025.
Are leave encashment, bonus and notice buy-out fixed by law?
No. The leave policy, bonus payout and notice buy-out come from the appointment letter and company policy, so the calculator asks you for the basis (Basic + DA or gross, 30 or 26 days) and the amounts instead of assuming them.
