Good to know
- Professional Tax is set by each state, so slabs differ. The maximum anyone can be charged is ₹2,500 a year.
- Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh charge a higher amount in February so the year adds up to the notified total.
- Tamil Nadu and Kerala charge it half-yearly on your half-year salary, and Bihar and Jharkhand on annual income, not as a fixed monthly deduction.
- Delhi, UP, Haryana and Rajasthan do not levy it. Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim and Tripura do, but their slabs are not built in here — check your state portal.
- Odisha repealed Professional Tax with effect from 1 April 2026.

Estimate only — states revise Professional Tax slabs by notification. Confirm the current slab on your state commercial taxes or labour portal before running payroll. Municipal-level variations (for example in Tamil Nadu) are not modelled.
How this calculator works
Professional Tax is levied by state governments on salaried employees, with slabs that vary by state. This tool applies the slab for your selected state to your gross salary, using the right basis for each state: monthly, half-yearly (Tamil Nadu, Kerala) or annual income (Bihar, Jharkhand). Odisha repealed Professional Tax from 1 April 2026.
