Good to know
- Late fee: ₹50/day (₹25 CGST + ₹25 SGST) for returns with liability, ₹20/day for nil returns, charged from the day after the due date.
- Caps per return: ₹500 for nil; ₹2,000 (up to ₹1.5 Cr), ₹5,000 (₹1.5–5 Cr) and ₹10,000 (above ₹5 Cr) otherwise.
- Interest: 18% p.a. on the net tax paid late in cash, calculated as tax × 18% × days ÷ 365. Interest on ITC wrongly availed and utilised is 24% and is not covered here.
- GSTR-1 attracts only a late fee; interest applies to GSTR-3B tax payments.
Estimate only. Late fee amounts, caps and any amnesty or waiver notifications are revised by the government from time to time — confirm the current position on the GST portal before paying. Late fee is paid in cash and cannot be set off against ITC.
How this tool works
Enter the due date and actual filing date, choose nil return or your turnover slab, and add the net cash tax payable. The late fee is capped for your slab and split into CGST and SGST, and 18% interest is calculated on each tax head for the days of delay.
