How this tool works
Enter an invoice amount and GST rate to see the taxable value, total GST, and the correct split between CGST/SGST (intra-state) or IGST (inter-state) supply.
GST Calculator formula
GST exclusive: GST = Amount × Rate ÷ 100. GST inclusive: GST = Amount × Rate ÷ (100 + Rate). Within a state the GST is split equally into CGST and SGST; between states it is charged as IGST.
Worked example
A Pune business sells goods worth ₹10,000 at 18% GST.
- GST = ₹10,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹1,800
- Sale within Maharashtra: CGST ₹900 + SGST ₹900
- Sale to Gujarat: IGST ₹1,800
- Invoice total = ₹11,800. Working back from ₹11,800 inclusive: GST = ₹11,800 × 18 ÷ 118 = ₹1,800
The invoice total is ₹11,800, with ₹1,800 GST shown as CGST + SGST or IGST depending on the buyer's state.
